On this day in Italy, on our Umbria Photo Workshop, we would have been up before dawn and out on the lake with our fishermen friends. They have been fishing this lake their entire lives, and their families and ancestors before them, for centuries. For us, this would have been our ninth year. It is always special - the same and also different year to year. What gets stronger is our friendship. Nothing can take the place of just time - all these many sweet years. How I love this day.

Shepherds Day, Umbria Photo Workshop - a Celebration, not a Mourning
Today May 9th would have been our day with the Shepherds on our Umbria Photo Workshop. For the last five years Francesco, Danilo, Claudia and Claudia, Federico, their friends, children, sheep and dogs have welcomed us so warmly at their farm. Since our visit last year, Francesco and Claudia have gotten married, and we would have celebrated their happiness this year. This year's workshop has been postponed until next year, and it will be ever more sweeter. I have a lump in my throat as I post this. Trying to feel blessed with what we have, which is friendship, beautiful memories, and hope - and not to mourn what we dont have, right now in time. We love you, Basili family!
